Outpost loggers all come with a standard "SMA" style female socket for connection to any standard cellular antenna. External high gain cellular antennas can be used to improve signal performance where:

  • Installation is in a rural area where there is poor cellular coverage.
  • Installation is in a meter pit or underneath a manhole cover.
  • Installation is in a basement or room surrounded by thick concrete or metal walls.

Important! Although an external antenna may fit, it is important to identify and use the correct antenna that supports the required cellular band. Attaching an antenna that does not support the required cellular band can severely degrade the performance of a device or stop the device connecting all together.

Identifying Compatible Antennas

Australia - 4G Antennas

Compatible whip antennas have an orange tip. Compatible stubby antennas have a shiny black surface and typically a gold finished connection. Compatible puck antennas support the 700Mhz band.

Australia - 3G Antennas

Compatible whip antennas have an yellow tip. Compatible stubby antennas have a matt black surface and typically a silver finished connection. Compatible puck antennas support the 850Mhz band.

Antenna Position

In most cases the performance of the communication signal will be optimum with the logger mounted

  • with the antenna in a vertical orientation;
  • as far as possible from conductive materials; and
  • as high as possible from the ground.

Outpost offers a range of compatible external antennas. If you decide to purchase external antennas to use with Outpost loggers, ensure that the antennas work in the same cellular band and that the antennas do not compromise water-proofing.
