Outpost WASP and COBRA series loggers requires magnet activation (see Activating & Deactivating your logger). Upon a successful magnet swipe action, the loggers LED will commence a sequence of flashes.
Blue LED Flashing Code
- 1 flash - Device has a Low signal on registered network
- 2 flashes - Device has a Medium signal on registered network
- 3 flashes - Device has a High signal on registered network
- SOLID flash - Device is ON
Red LED Flashing Code
- 1 flash - Config Mode / No SIM
- 2 flashes - Could not register on network
- 3 flashes - Problem Reading CSQ
- 4 flashes - Could not Connect to website
- 5 flashes - Couldn't establish TCP connection
- 6 flashes - HTTP Retry limit reached
- 7 flashes - Too many Unexpected Resets; sleeping for a day
- 8 flashes - Connection Timed out
- 9 flashes - Radio Failed
Green LED Flashing Code
- 5 flashes - Successfully Entered Transport Mode
- SOLID flash - Success, Completed upload and configuration of device
Blue and Red LED Flashing Code
- alternating flashes - logger in battery protection mode, battery <3.5V, will exit mode when battery >= 3.8V (only for COBRA devices)
Trouble Shooting RED Flashing Codes
- Red LED 1 flash - Config Mode / No SIM
For water-sealed products such as WASP and COBRA, 1-flash should never occur. It indicates that a SIM card cannot be detected, which means the SIM card may be damaged or faulty.
Suggested action: Re-attempt a connection in a location of known reasonable signal (ie back at office) to confirm possible damage, then start RMA process.
- Red LED 2 flashes - Could not register on network
2 flashes can occur if the Outpost cannot detect any network signal at all. This can occur is rural or remote locations, or in locations where signal is heavily degraded or interferred such as underground, in plant rooms, in manholes with lids, in basements. If your cellphone can communicate but the Outpost can't it is possible in some remote locations that the action of simply bringing the Outpost up to head-height can give sufficient increase in signal to a remote tower.
Suggested action: See Trouble Shooting Poor Signal
- Red LED 3 flashes - Problem Reading CSQ (Signal)
Cellular signal can fluctuate slightly, particular in rural areas or in rain conditions. It is possible for an Outpost to successfully register on a network in very poor signal, but then have a signal fade and subsequently see insufficient signal to get a signal reading.
Suggested action: See Trouble Shooting Poor Signal
- Red LED 4 flashes - Could not Connect to website
The device is successfully connecting to the cellular data network, but failing to access the Outpostcentral.com web-server. Re-attempt a connection to confirm problem persists. If problem persists, contact Outpostcentral. There may be a fault with the network operators connection to the internet.
- Red LED 5 flashes - Couldn't establish TCP connection
The device is successfully connecting to the cellular data network, but failing to access the Outpostcentral.com web-server. Re-attempt a connection to confirm problem persists. If problem persists, contact Outpostcentral. There may be a fault with the network operators connection to the internet, or the a fault with the Outpostcentral.com server
- Red LED 6 flashes - HTTP Retry limit reached
The device may have been logging outside of signal coverage for too long and accumulated too much data. Contact Outpostcentral.com.
- Red LED 7 flashes - Too many Unexpected Resets; sleeping for a day
Should not occur - contact Outpostcentral.com
- Red LED 8 flashes - Connection Timed out
Should not occur - contact Outpostcentral.com
- Red LED 9 flashes - Radio Failed
Should not occur - contact Outpostcentral.com
Trouble Shooting Poor Signal
For WASP & COBRA with Internal Antenna:
1. Onsite, Attempt to elevate the Outpost device and re-attempt connection.
2. Onsite, If a another Outpost is available attempt a connection with the 2nd device to ensure the 1st one isn't faulty. If the 2nd device fails, it is likely better signal may be required.
3. Onsite, If a another Outpost is available with External Antenna option, attempt connection steps from 5.
4. Onsite, If no device with External Antenna is available, attempt a connection in a location of known reasonable signal (ie back at office) to confirm possible damage to the failing devices. If still no function, start RMA process.
For WASP, COBRA and EVO series with External Antenna:
5. Attempt to use a larger gain antenna
6. Attempt to elevate the antenna, either by elevating the Outpost or by using antennas extension cable.
7. If still fails, and if a 2nd device with external antenna is available attempt connections from 5 with the 2nd -EA device.
8. If all attempts with -EA devices fail, attempt a connection in a location of known reasonable signal (ie back at office) to confirm possible damage to the failing devices. If still no function, start RMA process.
