Obtaining a suitable local mobile operator account to use with Outpost Central hardware is a first step in operating Outpost products into a new region.
Here are some guidelines for dealing with your local mobile phone operator to ensure the right type of SIM cards are obtained.
The minimum requirements for the SIM connections are:
- connections must allow GPRS connection
- voice connection (incoming and outgoing) are not required, and can be de-activated
- connections must be able to receive short message service (or SMS)
- account would ideally be post-paid or “pay as you go” and not “prepaid” to ensure continuous data
Most mobile operators provide a type of connection for use with “telemetry” or “M2M” application where the connection requires no voice calls and uses small amounts of data per month. Typical data package size per month should be less than 5MB on default configurations for input logging and upload frequencies.
